Soiloponics definition.

Soiloponics is the active circulation of water or nutrient solution through soil.  This can be achieved (in my case) with a small  remote air pump.   The pump compresses air to 1 psi 7 kPa and this is enough to pump water for the soiloponics.   There are 2 main classes of soiloponics.  The ebb and flow where a bladder or pipe is under water below the soil level.  The bladder is filled with air and this moves the water level up and into the soil to water it.  Release the air and the water drains from the soil.   In the other system, water is pumped from a reservoir beside the container garden  onto the soil and drips  back to the reservoir. The photo below is one of the ebb and flow systems just installed. I have ran the tilted pallet garden for a couple of years (photo 3) and the airlift pump (diagram 4) has possibly the largest lift to submergence ratio of any airlift pump in the world!  (up to 23 to 1 in tests)   Brian White  26th May 2014
